Parks & Recreation

Parks, trails, and green spaces are central to the quality of life, health, mobility, and community connection. As the county continues to grow, increased recreational use creates a greater need for safe, accessible, well-maintained outdoor spaces and stronger trail connections between neighborhoods, parks, schools, and local destinations.

Action Priorities

  • Expand and maintain parks, green spaces, and regional trail connections.

  • Improve pedestrian and bicycle safety through better design, lighting, signage, and connectivity.

  • Protect natural resources while ensuring residents across the county have equitable access to outdoor spaces.

  • Support long-term planning that connects recreation, transportation, public health, and responsible growth.

Community Impact

Washington County maintains more than 400 miles of trails and continues planning regional connections to meet growing community needs. The county’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan identifies trail expansion as a key strategy for improving health, mobility, and community connection. Brian’s approach focuses on protecting what makes Washington County special while expanding safe, accessible outdoor spaces that help residents stay active, connected, and proud of the place they call home.
