Traffic & Transportation

Washington County is growing, and residents need transportation options that keep pace with that growth. Too many families, seniors, rural residents, workers, and people with disabilities still face limited access to reliable and affordable transit. Brian believes public transportation should connect people to jobs, schools, healthcare, and essential services while reducing commute burdens and strengthening regional mobility. His approach focuses on smarter planning, safer roads, expanded transit access, and stronger partnerships to build a transportation system that works for every community.

Action Priorities

  • Use data-driven planning to improve county transit connections, bridges, roadways, and long-term infrastructure investments.

  • Expand accessible transportation options for rural residents, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and working families.

  • Collaborate with Metro Transit, MPOs, MnDOT, and regional partners to accelerate priority projects and secure funding.

  • Support safer, more efficient, and more connected transportation options across Washington County.

Community Impact

As Washington County’s population approaches an estimated 300,000 by 2030, the demand on roads, transit systems, and regional infrastructure will continue to grow. Current commuting patterns and high rates of single-occupancy vehicle use indicate the need for safer, more reliable, and more multimodal transportation options that meet residents where they are.
